Workshop on Alternative Analytical Technology
(AAT) for soil nutrient analysis
through image processing chromatogram
Workshop
on “Alternative Analytical Technology (AAT) for soil
nutrient analysis through image processing chromatograms”
was organized in Murugappa Chettiar Research Centre (MCRC),
Chennai for three days from 27th to 29th April 2011.
The
notification inviting nominations were sent to various
institution, agriculture colleges, universities and NGO’s
in India during February 2011 and received about 33
applications in March of which 26 participants were invited
to attend the workshop. The workshop aimed at identifying
suitable organizations for establishment of soil testing
laboratories equipped with AAT for the benefit of millions
of farmers in India.
Twenty
three participants representing from various agriculture
colleges, universities, research centre and NGO’s from
India were participated in the workshop. The workshop was
inaugurated, by Dr. G. James pitchai, Dean, Thanthai Hans
Roever Institute of Agriculture and Rural Development,
Parambalur on 27th April 2011. The workshop programme
focused both theory and hands on training on AAT technology.
In addition with the hands on training, special lectures
were also organized and the details given below:

The
three days workshop ended up with valedictory address
delivered by Mr. K.Ragunanthan, Head, Technology transfer
and IT, Murugappa group appreciated the innovation of
technology and Mr. N. Mahatva Raj, Member Secretary, MCRC,
highlighted the participants suggestions such as validating
the technology in discuss with soil scientist, improve the
result accuracy in three parameters (OC, Z, S), importance
of AAT and willingness to transfer the technology.
