INTRODUCTION :

What are Medicinal Plants? Plants which are important medicinally ,that is, for Medicinal purposes are called Medicinal Plants. India is rich in Medicinal Plants. That is the reason why many herbal medications like Ayurveda and Siddha originated in India. Let us see some of the plants and their importance as follows.

ADHATHODA    [Adhathoda zeylinica] 

It is highly medicinal . The leaves and flowers of the plant is used in curing head ache dysentery , ulcer, cough and cold. Goats never approach these plants. 

JAMUN      [Syzygium cumini]

The fruits of these trees are rich in vitamin content. The seed of the fruit is used for the treatment of Diabetes. The tree is used for the prevention of dysentery, blood related disorders and heat development in the body.

HIBISCUS     [Hibiscus rosasinensis] 

The leaves and flowers of the plant are medicinal. It cures chest pains. It provides the black colour to the hair. It also helps in dense growth of hair. It is used in the treatment of fever and headache.

CURRY PLANT     [ Murraya koenigi ]

It is generally rich in iron content. Many children arte now anemic due to the ignorance of curry leaves in their daily food. It is used in the treatment of vomiting, cough , cold, gas trouble etc.

ALOE VERA    [Aloe Vera sp.]

This plant is used to  provide coolness to the body. The problem of Dandruff is solved. Body swelling is cured. There is plentiful growth of hair. This is also called kattrazhai in Tamil.

THULSI      [Ocimum sanctum]

The leaves of this plant help in getting relieved from hunger. Most importantly, it cures cough and cold. Lactation in females increases. This plant is deeply religious. Many people worship this plant everyday.

The skin gets strength. It provides coolness to the body. It prevents Scurvy because it is rich in Vitamin C. It is highly nutritional.

It provides coolness to the body. It is widely used during an infection of Chickenpox. It is anti-viral. It avoids constipation. It is used in the manufacture of tooth powder and tooth paste. Its twigs have been  used as toothbrushes from ancient times. 

There is increased secretion of Saliva by the Salivary Glands. Lactation increases in females after child birth. Swellings of nerves is prevented. It is called as Kattamannakku in Tamil.   

TAMARIND TREE    [Tamarindus indica]

Tamarind is a cure for Digestive problems. Also it is a perfect treatment for ulcers. The whole tree is medicinal. It is a good noise controller.

VITEX  [Vitex negunto]

There is great relief from Head ache. It also cures Head weight and body pain. It is a life saving plant. It is commonly called as Nocchi in Tamil.

ABUTILON [Abutilon indicum]

It is a perfect treatment for Constipation and Piles. It is a cure for a number of diseases. The flowers contained tasty honey.

[Delonix elata]

It is a perfect cure for gas trouble.

[Ziziphus jujuba]

The fruits are very tasty as well as nutritional.It is rich in iron and fibre content. It provides exceeding strength to the body. It avoids constipation.

AAVARAI       [Cassia auriculata]

The whole tree is medicinal. The flowers of the tree cure a number of  diseases. It increases the lifespan of the consumer. The bark of the tree is used in tanneries.
