Carbonate settings

Carbonate settings are those in which terrestrial sediments supply is low or absent but calcareous sediment or lime mud production dominates. Examples are oceanic islands, coral reefs and carbonate banks. In these cases, thick Mangrove derived peat accumulates over the carbonate platform An example is the Mangroves of Andaman and Nicobar islands. Environment conditions in these physical settings differ widely, which in turn control distribution of Mangrove species through ecophysiological factors.
