MCRC is recognized by other research organizations and industries as one of the well-equipped laboratories in Tamil Nadu for applied research. These facilities are also open to researchers of other institutions to perform their specialized analyses. It also promotes intern and short-term students from universities and colleges to carry out their project work from time to time. MCRC has 3 laboratories, functioning at different locations, viz., Taramani, Chennai (Science Centre), Perungudi, Chennai (Technology Centre) and Vadakadambadi (Agricultural Centre) near Mahabalipuram, Kancheepuram district.
Science Centre at Taramani
The "Science Centre" hosts research activities mainly in the Biological Sciences facilitated with suitable wet laboratory facilities. They include a Microbiology laboratory to maintain different species of bacteria and fungi for the purpose of conducting research related to (i) Agriculture including Biopesticides & Biocontrol agents, (ii) Bioenergy and (iii) other bioactive metabolites for Nutritional Supplement or Environmental cleanup. A Biochemistry laboratory fully equipped with apparatus to carry out basic and few sophisticated analytical work is available.
This Centre also houses a Natural Dyes laboratory facility to research on sustainable process for the production of dyes from microbes and plant sources. A separate Algal laboratory with a Microalgal Culture Collection Unit maintaining various strains having potential for various applications is also available. This campus also has a Centralized Instrumentation facility accommodating modern sophisticated equipment such as High Pressure Liquid Chromatography, Gas Chromatography, Atomic Adsorption Spectrophotometer, UV-Vis Spectrophotometer, Phase Contrast Microscopes, Lyophilizer, Sonicator, Fermenters, small scale dyeing machine etc.
Besides the laboratories, a nursery garden of medicinal plants is being maintained here. Other infrastructure facilities include Administrative Office, Scholars' Room, Conference Hall, Meeting Room, Library, Auditorium, Stores etc. for efficient functioning of the Institute.

Technology Centre at Perungudi
This Centre is well supported with facilities to carry out research pertaining to soil nutrient testing (using MCRC's innovative Alternate Analytical Technology called AAT), adaptive research in water & bioenergy, along with work areas for Technology Transfer and Extension activities. It is furnished with analytical equipment including Total Organic Carbon Analyzer, bomb calorimeter, flame photometer etc.
This Centre has been developed as a green building with open office style workplace, rain water harvesting structures, solar energy-based water lifting and night lighting to name a few. Currently, the laboratory infrastructure has been upgraded by providing key equipment in the individual sections, which allows the researchers to independently carry out their work in Technology Centre.

Agricultural Centre at Vadakadambadi
The "Agriculture Centre" with an area of about 6 acres, south of Chennai, has adequate infrastructure to carry out field experiments on sustainable agriculture and also for scaling up the technologies. The infrastructure here is designed for organizing field demonstrations for farmers and training programmes for creating awareness among school children, college students and farmers. It has an auditorium and furnished dormitory rooms, which can accommodate 30-40 individuals, for various residential programmes. The pilot scale Ganoderma lucidum production facility established for improving MCRC's Ganotech is being operated from this campus.
